About NRV-SHRM
The
New River Valley Chapter of SHRM was founded in Blacksburg, Virginia, in
1971. Originally, most members were employed by local industries. Today
our membership reflects the diverse economic interests characteristic of
our region.
We serve the New River Valley, a scenic area encompassing Blacksburg,
Christiansburg, Dublin, Floyd, Giles, Pulaski, and Radford. We have over 120 members
representing an array of business, government and university interests.
In addition, we support two student SHRM chapters at Radford University
and Virginia Tech.
We meet on the third Thursday of each month; rotating breakfast meetings at 7:30 a.m.
and lunch meetings at 11:45 a.m. We provide a
warm, informal environment in which to discuss issues of professional
significance. Recent topics covered have included affirmative action,
diversity, legislative updates and salary and benefit strategies.
In addition to monthly meetings, we
hold professional seminars as well as sponsor such social activities as
a golf tournament, a holiday social in December, and trips to baseball
and hockey games.
